Rules & Regulations Released for the 2025 World Coffee Roasting Championship

The Specialty Coffee Association is delighted to release updated Rules & Regulations for the 2025 World Coffee Roasting Championship. The updated rules and scoresheets are the first of the 2025 World Coffee Championships (WCC) season, and will be used at the world finals at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Houston, TX, USA, from April 25-27.

This round of updates are largely clarifications and formal additions that highlight current practices. These updates include changes to how competitors should register for the event, and update to the range of provided green coffee, and formalized procedures for measuring color, use of personal notes and hearing protections, and the procedure for grinding coffee. Competitors must now specify the ratio and quantities used for their blend, and a penalty has been added for late submissions or missing information to underline its importance in coffee evaluation. The evaluation procedure has been updated to allow more than five descriptors for some of the attributes, and there have been changes to how certain examples are categorized. Finally, the process for appeals/complaints a both Competition Body and World-level events has been updated and streamlined to involve submitting an online form.

Updates to the rules & regulations are overseen by the WCC Competitions Strategic Committee. The rules documents, summaries of changes, scoresheets, and new appeals form are now available on the Rules & Regulations page.
