Please tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Ryan Wibawa, and I’m representing Indonesia. I run The Room, a fully functioning specialty coffee experience built inside a 2×2 meter space in my apartment — reflecting my belief that meaningful coffee experiences are created through hospitality and connection.

I first competed as a newcomer in Dublin in 2016, and 2026 marks ten years since that first experience on stage. I entered competition — and the coffee industry itself — without expectations or prior experience. What I discovered was a community of passionate people and a culture I genuinely enjoyed being part of. That curiosity gradually grew into a long-term commitment, and I continue to work and grow within the coffee industry today.

I compete to challenge myself and to use the stage as a platform to share stories and create impact. One of my most meaningful milestones was placing 3rd at the World Brewers Cup 2024 in Chicago. Competition remains an important space for exploration, learning, and contributing to the global coffee community.

What are you excited to do while you visit Brussels?

I’m excited to explore the local coffee scene, eat like a local, and reconnect with friends from around the world. These events are special moments where the global coffee community comes together, and I truly value being part of that energy. Most of all, I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with fellow competitors.

What are your interests outside of coffee?

I enjoy staying active through sports, traveling, discovering local food, and working on creative collaborative projects that connect people.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCC?

I would like to thank God, as I would not have been able to achieve all of this without His guidance and grace. I would also like to thank my family for their constant support throughout this journey, especially my wife for her encouragement and understanding along the way. I’m deeply grateful to the Common Grounds team (Daryanto & Yessy) for their support and help.

Beyond that, I appreciate everyone who has contributed to my preparation — from coffee producers to fellow competitors and friends in the coffee community. Competition is never an individual effort, and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by people who continue to challenge and inspire me.
