Mark Uhlig, Spain
D·Origen Coffee Roasters
Please tell us a little about yourself:
I am one of the owners of D·Origen Coffee and have been in the coffee industry for 13 years, starting when I was just 16 years old. Interestingly, this was my first time participating in an SCA competition, and winning the Cupping Championship of Spain was an incredible experience. I got into the coffee industry thanks to my brother, who founded the company.
What are you excited to do while you are in Geneva?
I’m excited to visit the World of Coffee fair with a different perspective—this time as a competitor. I’m also really excited to visit Geneva, as I’ve never had the chance to explore the city before.
What are your interests outside of coffee?
I enjoy watching and playing tennis, trying new foods, and traveling.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
First and foremost, I want to thank my brother, Michael Uhlig, who introduced me to coffee at the age of 16 and gave me the opportunity to start learning about it and to be part of the D·Origen Coffee project. I also want to thank Javier Carrión, our coffee trainer at the company, who has been instrumental in helping me train and preparing all the cupping sessions for me. I’m deeply grateful to my wife and life partner, who is always by my side, supporting me every step of the way. And, of course, a big thank you to the entire D·Origen Coffee team!
