Helm Coffee Roaster

Please tell us a little about yourself:

I work at Helm Coffee Roasters and have been competing for 3 years. I started competing because I wanted to push myself. I wanted to improve as a barista. I wanted to improve my pallet, my ability to dial in, and understand how to brew better coffee.

I used to race downhill skateboards, and I'm a black belt in Karate with over a decade of experience.

I transferred a decade of being a home barista into learning the ropes at Helm. It's been a crash course ever since in green sourcing, running a cafe/roastery, and always learning to be a better barista and person.

What are you excited to do while you are in Jakarta?

Explore and learn about a new place, new food, and new culture. Embrace Jakarta and enjoy getting out and about when we are not busy with competition prep.

What are your interests outside of coffee?

Hifi Audio and records, video games, rock climbing, running, exploring a new city and its culture and food.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

Jillion Potter for giving me a chance at Helm and making all of this possible. Molly, my wife for not only being present but also embracing this opportunity and helping every step of the way. Hugo, Jessa, Josh, and Team Indy for giving me the space to practice and helping everyday. The entire U.S coffee community for being so supportive and inviting me in three years ago.
