Luiz Eduardo Lahutte Motta, Portugal
SO Coffee Roasters
Please tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, I’m Luiz Eduardo from Brazil. Currently living in Porto, Portugal. I’m working as a barista for already 12 years. But I’m start to competing just 3 months ago. Actually this is my first competition in my entire career. I’m living in Portugal for 5 years already and I’m working at SO Coffee Roasters for 2 years. My goals inside the competitions is show to everybody who I am, to represent the most unique professionals I had a luck to meet along my career and to add all my love and passion in every single brew and also a every single cup of coffee. I like serving people, I like talking, looking people in the eye and showing my affection and respect for the coffee and also for the customer. I started out as a barista in a funny situation. I was working at a small bistro coffee shop in my city in Brazil, but since I had very little experience, I was in the kitchen washing glasses when I suddenly broke a glass in my hand and cut myself. Because of that, I couldn't continue washing glasses that day, so the owner of the café switched jobs with me. She asked me to work at the espresso machine and that day she realized that I had a knack for talking to customers at the counter and also for preparing drinks. And since then, I've never left the espresso bar.
What are you excited to do while you are in Jakarta?
I love street food. Really, I love. So with no doubts the first thing I would like to do will be eat a proper traditional street food in Indonesia. Then I would like to visit some coffee shops, why not right? And then start to training.
What are your interests outside of coffee?
Be happy every single day in my life. Have more good friends, learn different languages, open my mind and laugh with my besties.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
Yes, I have. Rui, Joao and Mariá. Rui was my coach, a very nice guy, he knows how to do. Such a clever friend. Joao, another very good friend, he give me all the sets for be the champion in Portugal. And of course, Mariá, my queen. She give me all the emotional support and love. If it weren't for her and her affection, I would have already given up on the idea... Love you honey!!
