Santino Coffee Specialists Pte Ltd

Please tell us a little about yourself:

I have been in the coffee industry for 15 years and am currently the Head of Coffee at Santino Coffee Specialists in Singapore. My journey with coffee began as a part-timer at a Western restaurant, where I had never even drunk coffee before. I was fascinated by how the baristas used the espresso machine and my curiosity led me to ask the head barista to teach me how to make an espresso and appreciate its flavours. From that moment, I was totally captivated by the complexity and depth of coffee. I began competing in 2012, starting with latte art throwdowns and eventually progressing to national-level competitions. I won Malaysia Brewers Cup in 2016 and had the honor of representing my country on the world stage in Dublin. Over the years, I have been inspired by many talented baristas and competition has become a way for me to continuously challenge myself, not only to improve the technical skill but also to have personal growth and gain confidence. For me, competition is a platform to connect with the coffee community, groom the young baristas and constantly push myself beyond my comfort zone.

What are you excited to do while you are in Milan?

I am excited to experience Milan’s coffee culture, from traditional espresso bars to modern specialty cafés. Attending the WCC is a great opportunity to connect with global coffee professionals, gain inspiration, and celebrate the craft. I am also looking forward to exploring the city’s food, history, culture and even fashion —everything that makes Milan unique.

What are your interests outside of coffee?

Outside of coffee, I enjoy exploring tea, alcohol, and other beverages. I am fascinated by their unique flavor profiles and brewing techniques. I'm also passionate about sensory development, which helps me stay creative and sharp in my coffee work. Beyond beverages, I enjoy traveling, experiencing different cultures, and discovering new flavors and ideas along the way.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

Yes, of course! :) Firstly, I would like to thank my team at Santino Coffee Specialists including my bosses for their constant support and encouragement throughout this journey. Their help during long practice sessions, their honest feedback, and their belief in me made a huge difference in my preparation. A special thank you goes to my coach, Marcia, whose guidance, expertise, and patience were instrumental in helping me grow throughout this competition. From fine-tuning my routine to pushing me beyond my limits, her dedication gave me the confidence to perform at my best. I am also deeply grateful to my friends who have supported me over the years—sharing knowledge, offering encouragement, and reminding me why I want to compete. This journey has never been a solo effort, and I am super thankful to everyone who has been a part of it.
