Please tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Esther, I am based in Los Angeles working as an onsite manager for a coffee tasting studio Atelier Q under Quat Los Angeles. My beginnings in coffee reside in small mom and pop shops. I have worked in various cafe settings from that point. This past year was my first national competition representing the United States. I believe there are many attributes that work together to move the coffee industry forward. As a coffee professional of ten + years, I wanted to dedicate more time to becoming a better handler of something as volatile as coffee. When I taste and brew coffee, I chase a feeling and use metrics and precision to get there. I hope to inspire and dignify the work of baristas all over the world, and bring greater value and message to the community.
What are you excited to do while you visit the WCC city?
As it is my first time in Europe I'm simply excited for the change of scenery. Connecting with other cultures are meaningful to me, so although I don't know what to expect, I'm excited to try the food and walk the streets mostly. If I run into any animals that would be a dream come true honestly.
What are your interests outside of coffee?
I enjoy cooking, baking, and write music on the side.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCC?
I'd like to thank Quat LA for becoming an incubator for my growth. The US coffee community also wrapped around me with so much warmth and willingness to bring us forward well. My loved ones and church community who have prayed for my journey. I've always felt grounded in my personal rule to value people above all matters. And I've found the process to be enriching because I was able to have the support from so many people I love.
