Felix Ouma, Kenya
FAIRCHAIN KENYA & MOYEE
Please tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Felix Ouma, the current Head of Production at Fairchain Coffee and Moyee. My journey in coffee began in 2014, purely by chance, when I stepped behind the bar as a barista. What started as curiosity soon turned into passion — and that passion led me deeper into the world of coffee roasting. Today, I serve not only as the head roaster but also lead production at Fairchain Kenya, ensuring quality and innovation in every batch. I’ve had the honor of representing Kenya on the barista championship stage twice — first in 2019 and again in 2025. Fun fact? I never planned to be in coffee but now I can’t imagine life without it.
What are you excited to do while you are in Milan?
The most exciting things I will do is explore the city’s vibrant specialty coffee scene with top spots like Cafezal, Orsonero, and Moleskine Café offering world-class brews and creative inspiration. I will immerse myself in Milan’s rich culture by visiting modern art spaces like Fondazione Prada or Triennale Milano, and take in the city’s beauty by climbing the iconic Duomo di Milano for breathtaking rooftop views. A stroll through the elegant fashion district—Via Montenapoleone and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
What are your interests outside of coffee?
Outside of coffee, I have a deep appreciation for wine and beer tasting — exploring flavor, balance, and craftsmanship in every sip. I’m also a car enthusiast with a love for racing and performance machines. But above all, I’m endlessly curious; I love understanding how things work, whether it’s a brewing machine, a combustion engine, or a production process — breaking things down and learning from the inside out truly excites me.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
I would like to sincerely recognize and thank the Kenya coffee events and Tess, my coach, for her unwavering support and guidance throughout my journey. I’m also deeply grateful to the entire team at Fairchain Kenya for standing by me during every practice session. A heartfelt thank you as well to the farmers whose coffee I proudly used — your hard work and dedication made this possible.
